Salvage excavations are usually a condition of consent to destroy an archaeological site given either by Heritage Victoria or Aboriginal Victoria. They require an archaeologist to remove (salvage) archaeological material and process and register the removed material in accordance with conditions as outlined by Heritage Victoria or Aboriginal Victoria.
