Salvage excavations are usually a condition of consent to damage an archaeological site given by Heritage Victoria or as a condition of a Cultural Heritage Management Plan. They require an archaeologist to remove (salvage) archaeological material and process and register the removed material in accordance with conditions as outlined by Heritage Victoria, First Peoples - State Relations, or the relevant Registered Aboriginal Party.
